The Alzheimer Society of Calgary recognizes the role many families play in providing care for other family members.

Many people do not see themselves as family caregivers even though they are giving their time and energy to help another person manage their activities of daily living.

One of the most important things you, as a family caregiver, can do is look after yourself. You can effectively continue to care for someone else only if you look after your own health - physically, emotionally and spiritually.

The Alzheimer Society of Calgary operates Club 36 - an adult day support program for people with dementia. The Club provides meaningful activities including community outings, baking, gardening, music and individual hobbies such as woodworking. Club 36 offers participants a meaningful day that maximizes the individual's independence and abilities in a caring, supportive environment. It also provides caregivers a chance for respite.

"Words cannot express my gratitude to Club 36 for the two days of care they provide. Without a doubt this has enabled me to keep him home, which is my heart's desire."

Club 36 was one of the first day programs and has provided quality dementia care for 20 years. Please read our DCP Annual Report.

The Society offers many programs and services under our Family Education Series. Find out more about  Empowered Care.
