Practical Dementia Care
This newly formatted one day workshop will provide you with practical and easily implemented knowledge, skills and tips for quality dementia care on a daily basis. The program will include the following modules:
-
Dementia Basics™; an introduction to types, signs and symptoms of dementia. This module provides a greater awareness about the nature, causes and effects of dementia.
-
Responding to changes in behaviour. All behaviour has meaning and is often the result of an unmet need. The module will provide a problem-solving framework that guides our response to changes in behaviour. You will explore possible causes of these changes for the person with dementia, enabling you to identify possible interventions.
-
Effective ways to enhance communication. This module will identify ways dementia challenges a person's ability to communicate and interact with his/her world. You will gain insight in various ways to communicate effectively with the person throughout the disease process.
-
Developing activities to support the person with dementia. In this module you will create an activities model based on the four cornerstones necessary to support a person-centred approach to the concepts of activity.
Quality of Life at End of Life: A Professional Framework
Staff need to feel comfortable with the concepts of death and dying so they can better support those in their care. This workshop will focus on values clarification, knowledge relating to late stage dementia, palliative care and the dying process. You will gain insight into how and why families make the decisions they make, thereby enabling you to develop understanding and compassion in the delivery of end of life care.
