As baby boomers edge closer to 65 years old, the number of people living with Alzheimer's disease or a related dementia is growing. But we realize that we need to know more about the disease and best practices for caring for someone living with dementia.

That's why the Manor Villages Life Centers have teamed up with the Alzheimer Society of Calgary to help grow the Dementia Care Training Centre (DCTC) to train and develop professionals and staff working in dementia care.

Our approach to dementia care training is to look at increasing knowledge across the care continuum; that means learning opportunities for staff from housekeeping through to RNs, said Barbara Ferguson, executive director, Alzheimer Society of Calgary. Knowledge and education is so powerful. This partnership will help advance our mission of alleviating the personal and social consequences of Alzheimer's disease and related dementias. The DCTC provides education for professionals working in home and community based settings, as well as residential care facilities, such as long-term care centres and assisted living facilities.  We have programs for all skill sets and levels of expertise. We are excited to partner with the Alzheimer Society as they provide learning opportunities for care staff in the Calgary area who work in a variety of roles across the care continuum," added Nicolle Blais, vice-president of operations, Manor Villages Life Centers.
