Training Scholarship Opportunities
The Alzheimer Society continues to open more doors in training
Providing training and workshops has always been a large component of the services offered by the Alzheimer Society of Calgary - training people with the skills they need to deliver effective care to those living with or affected by Alzheimer's disease.
Now accessing that training is even easier. We are excited to announce two scholarships.
The $10,000.00 Foundation for Seniors Care Hearts of Excellence Scholarship was initiated by Intercare Corporate Group and runs on its own governed structure.
"This foundation was designed around the concept of excellent senior care in our community by educating those who work with seniors and giving them the skills that will improve their care and interaction with seniors and, more specifically, those living with dementia," says Oriel Morrison, Regional Director for Intercare.
The second scholarship was made possible by the Independent Order of Odd Fellows who generously gave $5,000.00. This new scholarship will continue to create barrier-free to individuals and organizations that can benefit from dementia training.
For more information on application guidelines or to find out if you or your organization qualifies, call the Society at (403) 290-0110.

See Our Results
The Alzheimer Society of Calgary is outcomes based and as such we regularly evaluate our staff training and family education programs. The following report outlines the success of our two signature training programs, the Best Friends™ Approach Associate Trainer Program and the Best Friends™ Workshop. The data is from our 2006-07 fiscal year and provides feedback from trainees on the effectiveness of the training programs as well as their eagerness to go back to their places of work and begin to engage the person with dementia in a more person-centred, dignified and respectful manner. This is a great way to learn more about out training programs from the people who have participated to see how the training may benefit you in providing excellence in dementia care.
